Heart Attack Lecture

Atherosclerosis: Progression

  • Patients with one or more risk factors for coronary artery disease are susceptible to increased buildup of fatty layers known as atheroma. This begins to encroach upon the inner channel and interferes with the flow of blood.
  • Fibers deposit with the atheroma and it enlarges to turn into a hardened plaque.
