Atherosclerosis and blood clots

  •  The plaque may rupture and develop a superficial crack.
  • Blood clots are deposited on this crack and further reduces the channel through which blood has to flow.
  • If the clot totally fills up the channel of the artery (bottom right), flow is completely cut off and a heart attack occurs.
