How does fluid escape out of blood vessels?

  • The capillary pressure is increased in CHF
  • When the capillary pressure exceeds oncotic pressure, fluid escapes through the thin walls of the vessels and makes its way to the surrounding space
  • In the lungs, the fluid can make its way to the air sacs or alveoli. In the legs, it can cause edema or swelling
