Heart Attack Lecture

How effective is a Coronary Stent?

  • When coronary artery stents are used in heart attacks as a primary form of treatment (without prior use of "clot buster" medications), the success rate is >95% with less than 1% (0.8%) death rate within the hospitalization period.

  • Studies have shown that the restenosis (recurrance of blockage at the same site) rate was around 25% during a 7 month follow-up period.
