What happens in the ER?
The initial evaluation and management of a patient with a heart attack usually consists of the following:

A history of the illness is obtained from the patient and a physical examination is performed

EKG is obtained

Drawing of blood for testing and placement of an IV

Pain medication, usually through the IV line

Aspirin

A chest x-ray

Nitroglycerin tablet, if needed
